And the year is done. Out with '08 and in with '09.

A good year, I'd say. Some Bacon Challenge success, some Bacon Challenge not quite success, but "mission accomplished" or not I think it's safe to say that the Bacon Challenge '08 was a great thing. All participants and supporters had fun as far as I have heard. As they like to say, "Everyone's a winner!"

As for '09? Well, nobody has really committed to a new plan as far as I can tell. It seems nothing gets people excited and motivated like bacon does. Maybe we get back into it with a new challenge in '10? Or maybe we make a quick decision? I've already had one apple and have another sitting on my desk right now so apples are sounding good to me if anything. But I'd like this to be a group thing so maybe we need more planning than this.

Oh, eating or not, here is a challenge for '09 that a co-worker/beer pong arch enemy is doing ... it's called Year of the Beard. Join in or donate or both (I guess this isn't really ideal for the ladies to participate in, but since the quest will raise some money for battered ladies I guess it all evens out).

Happy New Year everyone ... and bacon, just because you're not part of a challenge this year, don't think we won't still be eating you on the regular.

Bacon In The Sun

My parents recently returned from a cruise 'round the Caribbean. This served as a vacation as well as my mom's first venture out into public with a Christmas present that she gave herself -- her first digital camera. I received this photo/caption via e-mail a few days after their return:

Bacon Challenge '08 participant -- there's lots of bacon available on a cruise!

During a discussion of the photo we had via e-mail, this comment was returned, "Some nerve wearing a 2 piece suit."

Clearly there was no mix-up at the hospital. We share the same genetic material. At least when it comes to fat jokes and bacon appreciation.

So eat your bacon, but keep the activity up to burn it off. Summer is just around the corner and that means you're going to probably have to squeeze into a bathing suit and you don't want to look like that overstuffed vacationer. And you certainly don't want to wind up the subject of jokes on some blog about bacon.

Thanks, mom.

And why doesn't someone else blog something? Anything. I'm starting to feel like a bloghog.

So the first Bacon Challenge poll has concluded. With 91 votes, one can conclude that the Bacon Challenge is much more exciting than what is going on in the New Hampshire presidential primary. The poll is coming down, so for documenting sake I'm posting the results here:

Should turkey bacon be counted the same as "regular" bacon?

Yes -- Bacon is bacon: 10 votes (10%)

No -- Bacon is made from pigs, period: 58 votes (63%)

It should be counted the same, but will be cause for ridicule and possibly violence: 21 votes (23%)

Not sure: 2 votes (2%)

So, people like their bacon made from pigs. But you non-pig eaters need not worry. You can Bacon Challenge your own way.

Bacon Challenge '08

Here we go ... a little blog to keep participants and fans of the Challenges Are Way Better Than Resolutions Challenge for 2008. The challenge for this year? 365 strips of bacon in 365 days (actually 366 days) -- it's The Bacon Challenge!
For those of you not good at math, that will mean slightly less than one piece of bacon a day for the entire year. You can do it however you want. One piece a day (with one day off) or 5 pieces at a time, 10 pieces at a time, a pound at a time, 365 in one day, whatever.
